WS2 is a showcase of sustainability innovation. It is Perth’s first CBD commercial building to integrate sustainably sourced, cross laminated timber and demonstrates how sustainable design can deliver both commercial and environmental outperformance while meeting tenant needs.
WS2 is a highly innovative, low-carbon 12 storey office building located in the heart of Perth. As an infill project over an existing multi-storey carpark podium, the building has been designed as a lightweight steel-timber hybrid. The steel frame structure with a cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor plate provides the significant benefit of a c.70% embodied carbon saving compared to the typical reinforced concrete equivalent.
A new highly durable, weather resistant ETFE polymer canopy guides visitors from St Georges Terrace via Westralia Square to the building’s lobby which features a timber coffer ceiling and a stoneclad core in contrast to the glass and metal external shell. The surrounding public domain has been upgraded with new bluestone paving, seating and landscaping.
